Lords of Earth and Lords of Fire

The Princes of Amber

Sand

Daughter of Oberon and Harla

Deceased

A slim, russet-haired woman in a man's garb, black trousers and boots and a plain tan shirt. Her gaze is plain and direct; she lacks weapon, jewelry, ornament of any kind.

Sand was the older of the two children produced by the alliance-marriage between Oberon and Harla. No pictures of Sand hang in the palace, nor is she frequently mentioned. Following their mother's death, the story goes, Sand and her brother Delwin grew unhappy with Oberon's policies toward their mother's homeland, and eventually departed on a permanent basis. Some seventy years or so thereafter, Sand fell entirely out of contact, and the consensus among the family seems to be that by now she is dead.

Interestingly enough, the actual name of Harla's homeland seems to have been lost.

In the mythology surrounding the royals' Trumps and the Tarot in Amber, Sand is frequently associated with the Moon. The card does not generally depict her, however, instead showing a lobster, a wolf, a dog, and a ruined tower or the ghost-city of Tir-na Nog'th. Superstition claims that to place Sand's visage on the card is a sure bringer of bad luck.
