Lords of Earth and Lords of Fire

The Princes of Amber

Random

Son of Oberon and Paulette

The one bore a wily-looking little man, with a sharp nose and a laughing mouth and a shock of straw-colored hair. He was dressed in something like a Renaissance costume of orange, red, and brown. He wore long hose and a tight-fitting embroidered doublet.

Random is the second son of Oberon and his last queen, Paulette, and the only surviving one of the children. After a lifetime as the runt (at five and a half feet, he's smaller even than Brand) and general juvenile delinquent of the family, he has settled down: a stable marriage with Vialle, a decent relationship with his bastard son Martin, and to just about everyone's surprise, the throne of Amber itself.

It would be nice to think Random had changed. And perhaps he has: Amber has retained her health and supremacy, and times are relatively peaceful. Rumor, though, has attributed any number of incidents of erratic behavior to the King already - most especially, there are murmurs of the near-unforgivable, an affair with the ambassador from Chaos.

In the mythology surrounding the royals' Trumps and the Tarot in Amber, Random is frequently associated with the Fool.
